About Us
Z Hair Salon was founded in August of 1996 by salon owners Glenn and Marilyn Binder. In 2002 their daughter Rachelle join the salon staff. The original salon located is Chalmette,LA in historical St.Bernd Parish, just 9 miles from downtown New Orleans.
However on August 29,2005 our original salon was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and needed much repair.
There was also massive destruction of homes in Chalmette because of the hurricane and because of the damage to many of the homes that involved our client base, the majority of our clients moved to the Northeast Region of New Orleans known as Slidell. So, Z Hair Salon relocated to Slidell, LA in November 2005.
Z Hair Salon in Slidell La. opened in November 2005 to meet the overwhelming client demand for our hair services and products.
Z Hair Salon in Chalmette reopened in September 2008 and we currently operate two locations now in the New Orleans Area.
About Our Salon Owners
Salon owner and comsetologist Marilyn Binder brings 42 years of experience in the art of hair styling and to the science of hair coloring. Marilyn knew at the age of 14 that she was going to make cosmetology her life long career. She says ” I used to pratice hair styling on my friends and family before I went to cosmetology school and many of them are my still my clients today”.
Marilyn continues on to say, “I like my career because I enjoy talking and helping people to look better. If hey look better, they feel better about themselves. Taking a client who is unhappy with their hair and seeing them leave happy is very rewarding for me”.
“Mostly known as Marliyn’s husband”, has been the silent owner over the years. He is the founder of the name, concept, and originator of Z Hair Salon and the web site zhair.com. Although not a hair stylist, Glenn’s role as part owner of Z Hair Salon has been the design of the Z Hair Salon website, salon product inventory, retail sales, and accounting for 16 years. In May 2011, Glenn decided to relinquished his daily role in Z Hair Salon management to pursue other charitable interests and work another vocation of hospitality in New Orleans. He still manages the salons website and its content and monthly accounting.
While his role in Z Hair management is limited, in September 2011, he decided to drive professionally again as a professional chauffeur in New Orleans a profession he very familiar with. Glenn says “this vocation gives me freedom at the same time to pursue my dream of helping the salon to focus on several charitable causes”. In which it does.
